“Hitta Hem” is a photo essay that portrays my daughter’s depression and inner
journey. When she turned fifteen, we moved from Latin America to Sweden. The
new language, daily life, and bullying at school caused her to stop eating and
sleeping. Eventually, she began to harm herself. The darkness that
surrounded her sometimes felt impenetrable; the helplessness and
fear, unbearable. But over time, something shifted, and slowly it became easier to
breathe — slowly, she began to heal. These images reflect her struggle, her
everyday life, and her path back.
